Performance Testing Powers Scalable Transaction Processing for a US Acquirer

THE CLIENT

A US Acquiring Bank That Launched a New Web Application Into a Zero-Tolerance SLA Environment

The client is a leading US-based acquiring bank managing high-volume payment transactions across multiple digital channels.

Its new web application was built to handle transaction processing under tight service-level agreements while integrating with NPCI APIs, a combination that left no room for performance gaps.

To ensure the application could meet scalability and reliability expectations under peak load conditions before go-live, the client engaged Opus to design and execute a performance testing and optimization program.

THE CONTEXT

Strict SLAs. External API Dependencies. A New Application That Had Never Seen Real Load.

Three performance risks threatened the application’s launch and ongoing reliability:

  • SLA compliance at risk before the application had ever seen real load: Stringent response time requirements for transaction processing created real risk of SLA breaches the moment the application encountered peak concurrent volumes, with no validation having been performed under realistic conditions
  • NPCI API integration introducing latency risk that internal tuning alone could not solve: External API integration with NPCI introduced end-to-end latency risk that could push response times beyond acceptable thresholds under load, regardless of how well the application itself was optimized
  • Backend load and resource utilization unoptimized for peak transaction throughput: Without caching, session management, and network consolidation strategies in place, backend load under concurrent user volumes would degrade throughput and push response times beyond the SLA thresholds the business required

WHAT OPUS ENGINEERED

An Iterative Test-and-Tune Program That Optimized Every Layer of the Application Stack

Opus implemented a structured performance validation approach combining testing, architectural tuning, and network optimization across the full application:

  • Performance testing and tuning cycles: Iterative test-and-tune cycles identified bottlenecks in transaction flows and drove targeted optimizations across each layer of the stack
  • NuGet service stack integration: Replaced SOAP calls with NuGet service stack to enable flexible interfaces, caching, and session support without requiring a full code rewrite, accelerating the optimization timeline
  • Network optimization: Related API calls were consolidated to reduce network traffic, cut round-trip latency, and improve end-to-end response times across NPCI-integrated transaction flows
  • Caching and session management: Targeted caching strategies were implemented for master data and transactional payloads, directly reducing backend load and improving throughput under concurrent user conditions
  • Reusable test artifacts: Comprehensive test reports and tuned configurations were delivered as a sustainable performance validation framework the client could use beyond the engagement

WHAT CHANGED

SLA Compliant. Faster to Market. Lower Testing Costs.

  • Full SLA compliance was achieved across all response time requirements, ensuring high-availability operations and business continuity under peak transaction loads
  • Streamlined API interactions and caching strategies improved overall system efficiency and reduced the backend load that had been the primary performance risk
  • Accelerated performance testing cycles enabled timely rollout of the web application, reducing time to market without sacrificing quality or reliability
  • Offshoring and efficient test design reduced overall testing costs while maintaining the rigor required for an SLA-governed, NPCI-integrated production environment
  • The robust test artifact library positioned the client for sustained performance validation as transaction volumes grow and the application evolves
