
Ramesh Mengawade
Executive Chairman
Ramesh has a track record of building and managing five payments technology organizations including spearheading the successful exits of three organizations to Mastercard, Western Union, and FTEN Inc.
Ramesh’s career started with HP in 1985, where he was working on real-time systems. He then worked with Wipro for 6 years on payments systems and equities trading, as a Technical Manager.
He continued working on the payments and equities trading domain in Indigo Technologies as Director – Technology from 1993 to 1996. Apart from implementing a ‘card acquiring network’ at Siam Commercial Bank, Ramesh headed delivery of an automated equities trading solution (TESA), which was selected by NASDAQ, Madras Stock Exchange, and many others, as its platform.
He founded Opus in 1997 to cater to the needs of the payments industry and led the implementation of the first three digital payments systems in India. As the CEO, Ramesh created multiple business lines, markets, and geographies for the company leading to separate entities including ElectraCard Services (ECS).
For the most part of his career, he has focused on strategic business management, driving key customer acquisitions, and building leadership teams. Ramesh served as the Chief Executive Officer of ElectraCard Services (ECS) and Opus Technologies until their acquisition by Mastercard and Western Union. He is now the Executive Chairman at Opus Technologies and Optimus Inc. He is also pivotal in guiding these two companies and devising their overall business strategy.
An alumnus of the Military School of Jamnagar, Ramesh Mengawade earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science and Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur.
Ramesh is based out of Pune, India. A sports enthusiast, Ramesh enjoys golf, and he can be spotted at many lush fairways worldwide. Ramesh has an adventurous streak, and he loves globetrotting.
